After winning the maiden edition of "The Gambia International Fishing Competition" in 2014, Mark was dethroned by Mr. Nick Westgarth a British national and son of a renowned fishing expert Mr. Bernard Westgarth (www.fishthegambia.gm) during the second edition of the annual fishing competition held in 2015.
Mr. Goddard, during four days fishing competition of the 2016 edition bagged a total of 23.34 kgs, 3.23kgs on day one and two, and 21.59 kg, 3.65 for day three and four respectively thereby out running all other participants with a total of 51. 81 kgs.
The second position went to Mr. Anthony Tabbal with a total of 15.98 kgs. Third position was grabbed by Sambou Sonko with a total of 10.8 kgs of fish during the four days.
The most number of species of fish were caught on day two of the competition and by Tony Tabbal.
A total of one hundred fifty six kilos ( 56.65kg) of fish were caught during the four day fishing competition 957.15kg of were caught on the first day, 9.9kg, on the second, 51.16kg on third and 38.60kgs on the fourth day respectively.
A total of 123 fish (13 species) were caught during the entire competition and the heaviest fish (Captain Fish) of the tournament weighed 21.95kg caught by Mark Goddard.
Species caught during the 2016 edition
46 Catfish, 1 Lady fish, 9 Cassava fish, 15 Black grouper, 25 Butter fish, 11 Barcuda , 1 Captain fish, 3 Moray eel, 4 Jotos, 2 Frog Fish, 2 stingrays, 1 pompano, 3 Trigger Fish.
The overall winner received a total of £ 1400
£ 1000 (Winner's Prize) + £ 400 (nominated specie day 1, heaviest catch day 1, heaviest catch day 2 and biggest fish of the competition.
The runner up received a total of £ 1100
£ 700 (second Prize) + £ 400 (heaviest single fish day 1, day 2 and day 3 respectively and most individual species caught by an angler over the four days).
The third place received a total of £ 900
£ 500 (third prize) + £ 400 (heaviest catch day 3 & 4, nominated specie 3 and the reserved specie of day 4).
Mr. Peter Mendy caught the heaviest single fish in day 4 and bagged £100.
The best skipper prize of was won by Mr. Momodou Saine who also went home with a £ 100 .
The total cash prize awarded to the various winners during the Awards Dinner held at the Swiss Tavern was £ 4300.
